In 1970  Bill Mares, who had been working in the Jewelry industry since 1962, decided to open his own business.  Bill’s father ,Jim, suggested naming the  business like the DeBeers Diamond Mines And using  his sister Myra Dee, and daughter Dee Suzanne -adding the Family surname and calling it  DeMares Jewelers.  The store opened in Vallejo’s Larwin Plaza Shopping Center in  1971. 

The business moved to its present location in the  Vallejo Plaza Shopping Center (The old Sears Building) in 1988 . 

Bill’s older brother , Bob Mares, joined the business (Mom , Carol, requested that he go help his little brother) on his off days from Vallejo Fire Dept. then full-time after retiring in 1993.  He continued to work at DeMares until 2004.

Janice started working for Bill as bookkeeper in 1995 to cover retirements.  She moved to full-time in 2001 and takes care of  a majority of the custom design an remounts.  Examples of your stones in a new design are usually delivered to your email within 48 hours of your design appointment for your approval.

Niece , Jessica, started working Christmas’ of 2000 wrapping packages and answering phones.  She has progressed to working full time in June of 2007  and  is an Acredited Jewelery Professional   Certified from  the Gemological Institute of America.
